Streeterville
186 acres of Hell on the lake
A dark musical comedy set at the conclusion of the 1893 Columbian exposition, Streeterville explores the grimy underbelly of gilded age Chicago.
Mayor Carter Harrison Sr. has reached the pinnacle of life with the success of the world's fair and a beautiful young fiance. Harrison is beloved as the “people's mayor” but he has made an enemy in an unemployed, unhinged, office seeker who has just moved into a squatter's settlement inhabited by prostitutes, drifters and thugs. This landfill site north of the river on the lake is claimed by “Captain” George Wellington Streeter and soap magnate N.K. Fairbank; tensions escalate as the value of the land rises, and greed and need play out under the gas lamps and tin ceilings of the wicked, crooked, brutal city.
